Aligarh : Students and teachers of the Malappuram Centre, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) walked across the breadth of the road from the Department of Law at the Centre swerving to the residential area and then returning back in a ‘Walkathon’ of the Health and Hygiene Committee to observe the nation-wide ‘Fit India Movement’ under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports guidelines.
Flagging off the Walkathon with faculty members, Dr Shahanawaz Ahmed Malik said: Every Indian should be fit and that is why our Government has launched the ‘Fit India Movement’.
He motivated the faculty members, students and staff of the Centre to attempt walking 10,000 steps each on the day and follow it up in daily routine.
“Let us make ‘Fit India’ a people’s movement”, pressed Dr Shahanawaz.
Dr Hamza VK (Chairman, Health and Hygiene Committee) emphasised: “This Walkathon aims to create awareness for a fit and healthy lifestyle. It is a unique event for spreading the message that the determination of ensuring a healthy and fit country and citizens is paramount”.
The ‘Fit India’ event at the Centre also included a mass exercise programme in which Dr Harris Muhammed (Coordinator, Health and Hygiene Committee) made participants perform various exercises and inspired them to keep up fitness commitments.
